Transitioning into my Portfolio project
This past week all we've been doing is learning about our final Project for this class. I've been brainstorming different concepts and ideas for our film opening (I'm working with a group) and we've collectively agreed we wanted to work on something relating to horror. However, we're still searching for what we want to pursue. (that'll be for another posting though!) We've been doing constant blogs over the year, learning about genre research, how to utilize sound, (create foley!) editing, and even representation! I plan to incorporate these ideas into my group's final production. We'd taken notes during our classes to better understand what should be included in the opening. We'd learn things like how to establish tone, illustrate genres, including credits, and titles, develop a purpose, and how we should engage our audiences.
To pursue darker elements of a horror film, I'd want to utilize darker color schemes, lighting, and settings to show this. I really want my film opening to be something related to a psychological thriller, but I still need to talk more with my group about this idea. My team lead ideas include inspiration from films like Smile and Scream.

I want to focus on mainly pursuing how we'll develop the character(s), how they'll appear, their overall vibe, and actions taken throughout the film. I want to make sure the purpose is represented mysteriously and shows small glimpses into what this antagonist or entity could be. I basically want to create mystery. I'd like to do this by offering different sound techniques, questioning the existence of an entity or an antagonist, and using mise-en-scene to incorporate the dream setting I've mentioned to further add suspense to the remainder of the movie.
These are ideas and goals I'd LOVE to incorporate into the film opening, but I still need to confirm and be 100% with my group's ideal preferences and try to see what we can further add to the development of this film opening. With all the projects we've done throughout the year and everything I've learned, I know me and my team will be able to handle this. If anything, I know I'll enjoy this project a lot.
